Customize any song with Kanye West's new Donda Stem player | USA Tech News
Kanye West revealed a new music gadget called the Donda Stem Player that will let you "customize any song," according to the device's website. It is available for preorder now for $200 with an unclear "summer" release date, although the website says it will ship "with the donda" from West's upcoming album.
Let's look at some of the gadget-y stuff first. The device, developed by West's Yeezy Tech brand along with electronics company Kano, resembles a slightly tan puck, and is apparently made of "soft silicone composite skin." It comes equipped with a headphone jack and Bluetooth support (and can playback Bluetooth and audio jacks simultaneously), a USB-C port, volume buttons, speakers, a haptic engine, and 8GB of storage. The four light bars are "touch sensitive light sliders," which probably let you control the device to customize the song. And it supports a wide range of music formats: .AIFF, .AIF, .FLAC, .M4A, .MP3, .WAV, .WAVE, .AAC, .ALAC, and .MP4.
Exactly what you can do with Donda Stem Player, the website says you can:
Control vocals, drums, bass and samples
separate part
add effect
Split any song into stems
The site also says that it offers the following tools:
4-channel lossless audio mixing
Realtime loop and speed control
touch effect
a hit
live specimens
Save, Playback and Share Mixes
Customize Color
Content and software updates from your browser
After publishing this post, we were exposed to some videos that show the Donda Stem player working (thanks, Vincent!) I suggest you use the four touches on the device to manipulate the music . Check them out to get a better idea of what the strips will be able to use. I personally have very little music creation experience, but based on these videos, I feel like I could do something cool with Donda Stem Player as well.
It looks like the Donda Stem Player could be a powerful music creation tool packed into a tiny device and it's one that's been rumored for some time: an alleged prototype of a West-affiliated Stem Player this year. The reveal was revealed and a leaked promotional video posted in early March showed the device announced on Wednesday.
But without trying it for ourselves, we don't know how easy it will be to adapt "any song" as promised. If you're on the fence, you'll want to wait for reviews until you buy one for yourself.
The Donda Stem player announcement comes as West has spent weeks promoting Donda, which currently has an August 29 release date on the iTunes Store. He has already hosted two stadium listening parties for the album, and he will host the third one on Thursday at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that fans will not be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to gain entry. Like the previous two shows, according to Billboard, the show will be livestreamed on Apple Music.
On Tuesday, West filed court documents asking him to legally change his name, according to The Associated Press. A judge must approve the change.
