Hyundai's electric N Vision 74 is set for production soon
The N Vision 74 coupe was a great embodiment of Hyundai's "high performance approach to electrification" two years ago that we were hoping to see as a real vehicle. It looks like it's very much possible now as it has been included in Hyundai's plan to launch 21 fully electric models by 2030. This slide (below) is from the company's 2024 CEO Investor Day presentation, which talks about the range of vehicles the company will launch and lists the Vision 74 and the Genesis Magma concept.
The plan also includes affordable EVs like the Inster/Casper subcompact, the three-row Ioniq 9 that's set to launch in the US, Genesis' luxury EVs and finally, high-performance models.
The executives didn't directly mention the N Vision 74 when they showed the slide. In response to an inquiry from The Verge, PR director Michael Stewart pointed to slides and a video presentation as all the information available at this time.
For the Vision 74, the company draws inspiration from Hyundai's 1974 Pony Coupe concept, which shared a design with the DMC DeLorean, and a virtual supercar, the 2015 Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo.
The Vision 74's link to that virtual supercar included a hybrid hydrogen fuel cell system. Still, the announcement wasn't directly tied to Hyundai's hybrid plans, so whatever form the actual car comes in could be very different from what we've seen so far. Of course, in other parts of the presentation, Hyundai talked about plans for extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which use a gas engine to recharge a battery pack, with the company offering a variety of powertrain options, "including ICE, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, EV, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles."
