NZXT will rent entire gaming PCs, but the costs add up quickly

Do you want to get into PC gaming and feel like you don't have enough expensive subscriptions in your life? Desktop PC builder and retailer NZXT can send you an entire gaming rig for just $59 per month — provided you bring your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

Based on NZXT's post, the Flex subscription program has been available for at least several months, and the price and specifications of the listed machines have changed over time. Now, it's updating its three-tiered approach to renting PCs with new specifications, including its base player: an entry-level sub running $59 per month for a tower running an Intel Core i5 14400F and an Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU. The mid-tier Player: Two costs $119 per month for an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and RTX 4070 Super GPU, and the top-tier Player: Three package costs $169 per month with an Intel Core i7 13700KF and RTX 4070 Ti Super.

All three tiers will also incur a $50 “setup and shipping fee,” which will include a return label if you decide to cancel your subscription.

The NZXT site states that subscribers can expect a new or refurbished Flex PC delivered within three to five days on a month-to-month basis, which can be cancelled at any time. Customers will also get a free replacement and hardware upgrade guarantee every two years, as well as 24/7 customer support if something goes wrong.

Two years is a pretty long time, and even with the cheapest Player:One model, you'll have to spend $1,416 to use that 4060 until 2026 (though there should be a free upgrade at some point in that timeframe). The Player:Three tier with a 4070 Ti Super will cost $4,056 to lease for two years.

That's the amount you could potentially spend to build your own 4090-tier desktop that's much more capable of 4K gaming. Woof.

We've contacted NZXT for clarification on the full specifications for each updated tier (including RAM and storage) and if customers get any incentives such as rental pricing if they can buy out their leased flex computer.
