Samsung Pay Wallet now lets you store a digital version of a COVID-19 vaccination card

Samsung devices that support Samsung Pay can now store digital versions of users' COVID-19 vaccination cards through a partnership with The Commons Project, a health care nonprofit, the smartphone company announced.

Users must first download the free CommonHealth app from the Google Play store, and follow instructions to access their COVID-19 vaccine records from participating pharmacies, health systems and health providers (not all providers are connected to the system yet) are) huh). Once a user has access to their COVID-19 credentials within the CommonHealth app, they can add it to their Samsung Pay Wallet. After this, the Kovid-19 Vaccine Pass will be available on the home page of the Samsung Pay app.

For restaurants, schools, offices or other places that require proof of vaccination, it is not yet clear whether they will accept these electronic versions or require you to show your paper COVID-19 vaccination card. And Samsung Pay still has a very small market share of the mobile payments market, where Apple Pay dominates.

Electronic COVID vaccine cards have been a little slow to catch on, but some progress has been made. In June, Google opened up Android's built-in Pass system to allow Android users to store a digital vaccine card on their phones. First available in the US, it will rely on support from healthcare providers, or other organizations that are authorized to distribute COVID vaccines. And some states, such as New York and California, have introduced their own digital vaccine cards.
