The Remastered GTA Trilogy has been unavailable on PC for over a day
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition was not available on the Rockstar Games Store on the same day it was launched. The trilogy, which comes packed with remastered versions of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas, was playable on November 11, but due to maintenance and other issues, it has become anything but.
Rockstar Support sent out a tweet saying that the remastered bundle is currently "unavailable to play or purchase", while it has "inadvertently removed the files included in these versions". It doesn't tell us what kind of files it's deleting, or provide an estimated time frame for the game to come back online, given only that it expects the wrong files to be replaced "soon". does. And as far as anyone who has managed to snatch copies of the game out of sight, Rockstar has blocked them from playing. Rockstar removed older versions of the game from its store - along with Steam - before the remastered trilogy was released.
Unfortunately, the launch of the three remastered games has been nothing but tumultuous. Rockstar Games Launcher went down for "maintenance" Thursday, rendering the remastered trilogy not only playable, but Rockstar's entire lineup of games, its store, download and cloud systems unusable for more than a day. Rockstar finally restored service for its Games Launcher and other services last night.
So far, early reviews for GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition don't look promising. Reviewers found the game full of glitches and bugs, mainly affecting the game's graphics. Some users have posted their experience on Twitter, and it doesn't look pretty — from thunderstorms with white droplets, to obvious spelling errors, to just awful-looking characters all around, the game has some serious quirks.
The Verge reached out to Rockstar Games with a request for comment but did not immediately hear back. Despite not being available on PC, the games are still available for purchase on the Rockstar Games Store for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
