Apple officially announces 'peak performance' on March 8

Apple will hold its next event online on March 8, the company announced today with an invite featuring the "Peak Performance" tagline and the multicolored Apple logo that may hint at the colors of the new devices.

The company did not disclose further details about what the virtual event will be like, beyond the time scheduled for 1PM ET / 10AM PT.

However, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is often a credible source for Apple rumours, speculates that Apple may announce a lower-cost iPhone SE. He suggests that the new device will come with 5G, faster A15 CPU chip and better cameras. It will share the same design as the current iPhone SE, however, which means the new SE may also retain the Touch ID feature.

Meanwhile, Gurman also said that Apple will announce the latest iteration of the iPad Air. The new tablet is expected to come with a new CPU and 5G for the cellular-equipped model. Apple, Gurman said, may additionally roll out the new iOS 15.4 update, which makes it possible to unlock Face ID-equipped iPhones and iPads while wearing a face mask. A Universal Control feature is also expected to debut with the new update, meaning users can use one keyboard and mouse across multiple iPads and Macs.

It's also been rumored that another Mac with Apple-designed chips could arrive in March, but that won't be something we'll see at this particular event. Nor will we see new iPhone 14 models, AirPods, Apple Watches, MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac Pro desktops rumored to launch later in 2022.
