Nintendo Switch 2 will now reportedly arrive in 2025 instead of 2024
The Switch 2 rumor mill continues. The original reporting on the Switch 2's release date had it projected to be released in 2024 in time for the holiday crowd. Now, according to sources who spoke to VGC, Nintendo is telling publishers that the console's release date is scheduled for Q1 2025.
And VGC isn't alone: video from a Brazilian journalist and "similar whispers" reported by sources who spoke to Eurogamer suggest the window has also been extended to Q1 2025.
A release in early 2025 could see the Switch 2 (this is not the console's confirmed name) launch at the same time of the year as its predecessor, which arrived in March 2017. Two sources from VGC confirmed that they were developing a Switch 2 game. Planned for a 2025 debut.
The "later" release date will also give developers time to complete launch titles, one of which could be Metroid Prime 4. Announced in 2017, development on Metroid Prime 4 was rebooted in 2019, but there have been no updates in five years. Polygon theorizes that Nintendo may be keeping it for its new console.
Whenever it launches, the Switch 2 will follow its predecessor to become Nintendo's best-selling console ever and surpass both its Sony and Microsoft console contemporaries.
